FAQs

Myotherapy is a comprehensive clinical approach that involves the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
Myotherapists employ a range of modalities, including various massage techniques, trigger point therapy, Mobilisation, MET, myofascial dry needling, cupping and exercise prescription, to address not only symptoms but also the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction.

In my opinion, not a whole lot! They both have a clinical approach, involving assessment, treatment, reassessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, but generally speaking, myotherapy involves a broader spectrum of assessment and therapeutic interventions.
A myotherapy qualification entails a lot more training and knowledge than a remedial massage diploma, covering additional modules such as nutrition, joint mobilisation, myofascial dry needling, electrotherapeutic modalities (TENS), and exercise prescription and rehab.
In saying that, there are some amazing remedial therapists out there with plenty of extra training, including in the abovementioned modules …..I used to be one! :)

Acupuncture and myofascial dry needling are distinct therapeutic approaches despite both involving the use of needles.
Acupuncture, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, aims to balance the body's energy flow through the insertion of needles at specific meridian points, addressing a wide range of conditions beyond musculoskeletal issues.
On the other hand, myofascial dry needling, grounded in Western medicine, focuses specifically on alleviating muscular pain and dysfunction by targeting trigger points within the myofascial system.
While acupuncture is holistic and considers energy meridians, myofascial dry needling is more localised, seeking to release tension within muscles and improve range of motion. The philosophies, goals, and techniques of these practices differ, reflecting their unique origins and therapeutic objectives.

Absolutely! Myotherapy sessions can be a game changing addition to a training regime. They can aid in recovery after heavy training sessions, and help reduce the risk of injury by preventing or addressing any muscle tightness or niggles before they become a real concern.
Together we can work out a treatment/management schedule that works for you.
-
Absolutely! Not every client has an injury or is in pain. Myotherapists can provide deep tissue massage to help keep niggles at bay, assist in stress management and relaxation, and keep you moving and feeling better.

Soft tissue refers to muscle, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules and fascia.
